Simmo Photo Feature III
All the way back in 2015 I did a “photo feature” post focusing on the photography of my homie the one and only Simmo. This wasn’t the first photo feature post we had done on Chronic Bone, but it is the only one that has a sequel, and now following up again, we have a trilogy.
At the time of the first post, Simmo had taken a keen interest in film photography and began to shoot photos of his surroundings and environment. Snapping it all up on some great $2 disposable cameras he had scored at the reject shop. The resulting images of sketchy rock climbing adventures to drunken antics with friends were actually quite interesting and I wanted to share em on the blog.
The second photo feature with the spotlight on Simmo really displayed a large improvement in his photo making skills. Not only had he upgraded from the Disposable camera he had also really started to narrow down and almost package in tightly what he wanted to show his viewers.
Literally a year later we have the Third instalment of Simmo’s blazing brilliant Photography. Simmo is actually on a trip around the world at the moment and forwarded me on a huge selection of photos just before he left. From shimmering almost surreal Australian outback scenes to more familiar back yard BBQ’s and benders. Simmo’s work always displays great duality, there is darkness and lightness, stillness and motion, warmness and coldness all in one image. When images are displayed next to each other there is an even greater contrast and almost a conflicting effect, but all of his photos are made with the same energy. Often featuring a chummy smile from one of his many friends Simmo’s photos are really starting to open a window into his life and I’m really excited to see what he has install for us when he come back from his overseas adventures.
peace!
